2FA: What Devices and Methods Can I Use for Two-Factor Authentication?

Morgan State University employees, students, and other affiliates who wish to enroll or are currently enrolled in two-factor authentication (2FA).

Introduction

This article provides:

  • A list of devices that can be used for two-factor authentication (2FA).
  • The methods of authentication that can be used with each device.
  • A brief description of each method of authentication.

The column headings in the following table are the types of devices that can be used for two-factor authentication. The row labels list authentication methods. Together, they show which methods of authentication are available for each device. 

Click the name of an authentication method in the first column for a brief explanation of that method.

Authentication Methods

This section includes a general description of how to use each method of authentication. For detailed, step-by-step instructions, see knowledge base article Log in to WebAccess Using Two-Factor Authentication.

  • Duo Mobile Push:

    1. Select the phone or tablet you wish to use from the list of your enrolled devices on the 2FA login screen.
    2. Click Send Me a Push. The 2FA service sends a request for approval to your phone or tablet.
    3. Tap Approve on your smartphone, tablet, or Apple Watch.
  • Duo Mobile Passcode:
    1. Select the phone or tablet you wish to use from the list of your enrolled devices on the 2FA login screen.
    2. Click Enter a Passcode.
    3. Open the Duo Mobile app on your phone or tablet to view the passcode generated by the app.
    4. Enter the passcode in the box provided on the login screen.
    5. Click Log In.
  • Phone Call:
    1. Select the phone you wish to use from the list of your enrolled devices on the 2FA login screen.
    2. Click Call Me.
    3. When your phone rings, answer it, press any key, and hang up.
  • Texted Passcode:
    1. Select the phone you wish to use from the list of your enrolled devices on the 2FA login screen.
    2. Click Enter a Passcode.
    3. Click Text Me New Codes. The 2FA service sends a text message containing 10 numeric passcodes to your phone.
    4. Enter one of the passcodes from the text message in the box provided on the login screen.
    5. Click Log In. You may use the remaining passcodes for future logins.
  • Security Key Tap:
    1. Select your security key from the list of your enrolled devices on the 2FA login screen.
    2. Click Use Security Key.
    3. Insert your security key into a USB port.
    4. Tap or press the button on it.
  • Touch ID:
    1. Select the Touch ID device you’re using from the list of your enrolled devices on the 2FA login screen.
    2. Click Use Touch ID.
    3. Place your finger on the Touch ID button on your device.
  • Duo Token Passcode:
    1. Click Enter a Passcode on the 2FA login screen.
    2. Press and release the button on your Duo token to display a passcode.
    3. Enter the passcode in the box provided on the login screen.
    4. Click Log In.
